Stretched to the Limit
I'd forgotten that I had set up this blog! Well, let's see if I can make anything of it now.
Work continues to be difficult to come by. Very few new enquiries, nothing of substance from existing contacts, and the jobs that I go after all go to people offering substantially lower prices. It is often not worth competing - at the rates peopel are paying, I'd be just as well off stacking shelves at Aldi!
Still, there are a few nibbles around right now.
I've done a small bit of 3D visualisation for a hotel developer with interests all over the world - a contact that I was given by my Interior designer brother-in-law. I am promised more work from this client, but I'll not hold my breath.
One job that I did bid for looks like it might yield something. A bit more substantial this one, design and detail of retail interiors on a freelance basis. Supposedly lots of repeat work available. Meeting the company owner later this week, but this will be the third time that the meeting has been rescheduled. Does not bode well!
Finally for this post, an enquiry out of the blue. Someone wanting an annexe constructing in the garden of their home. Met them last week and they indicated straight away that I had got the job. Mind you, the price that I quoted was half what it should be. It will be my first proper (paid) job on my own account, so now I need to get PI insurance sorted. That could be half the fee wiped out straight away.

Freelancing in the Recession
It is BAD.
I can not remember it being so bad. And I started as a freelancer when I was made redundant 2 recessions ago in 1992. From day one I never had the problems that I have had to face in the last 2 years.
So, where is the tiny little glimmer of just one sunny ray of a recovery?
Soon. Please.
